Four Floral Ribbons to Enhance Your Designs

Ribbon Selection

Ribbon is a colorful and simple accent for your floral designs! Derita offers a large selection of ribbon that varies in shade, size, and material to choose from.

Size is measured by the ribbon’s width. The most common are #3, #9, and #40.

#3 - 5/8”

#5 - 7/8”

#9 - 1 3/8”

#40 - 2 5/8”

#100 - 3 7/8”

The following four ribbon types are most commonly used by florists: Satin, double-faced satin, sheer, and flora satin ribbon. Derita also carries a selection of lace, velvet, shoestring, tulle, and patterned ribbon to meet your needs.

Satin – Satin ribbon is also known as “acetate” ribbon. It’s able to keep a stiff bow looking crisp, even in a cooler. The front side of the ribbon resembles a soft satin, while the back side feels like and is sturdy like paper. Satin ribbon is commonly used to decorate everyday floral arrangements, plant and fruit baskets, or in funeral sprays. Derita supplies this ribbon in a variety of colors for sizes #3, #5, #9, #40, and #100.

Double-faced Satin – Double-faced satin ribbon is perfect for events and occasions! It has a luxurious, silk like texture on both sides and is commonly used to wrap bridal bouquets due to its drapey, elegant look. Derita carries a large selection of #9 double-faced satin ribbon, and a handful of colors in #4 and #40. We also offer double-faced satin in “shoestring,” which is 1/8” wide.

Sheer – Sheer ribbon makes a beautiful, relaxed bow. Sheer ribbon can be used in the same way as satin ribbon; however, it should not get wet or be stored in the cooler for too long. It is known for being the perfect accent for corsages and boutonnieres. Derita offers both flat and “wired” sheer ribbon. It is the most popular size #3 ribbon that we carry! It is also available in sizes #9 and #40.

Flora Satin – Flora satin is the go-to ribbon for outdoor arrangements or wreaths. It has a papery feel but is not stained when wet. The most popular is size #40, but Derita also offers select sizes in #3 and #9.
